Like concentric waves emanating from a centre, we all radiate outwards from source. Growing greater and greater in size and prominence until it is time for us to slowly slip back into the seas.

Nature is always present to symbolically remind us of the patterns of reality that hold true for both the natural world and ourselves as part of it.

Each concentric wave is individual in nature. Slightly different in form from all its predecessors and yet fundamentally made up of the same substance, a totally unique incarnation of form which then once again becomes unified with the whole.

We have a tendency to think of ourselves as somehow removed from these patterns of nature; sheltered by our structures, routines and expectations. Yet like the wave, we have our time to dance across the surface, to sparkle in the sun’s rays and then eventually rejoin the whole.

There’s a sadness in this. I think to pretend otherwise is a fraud. We come to love particular emanations of the whole. Particular forms speak to our heart and ignite something of the divine in us, and therefore to let them go is painful beyond words.

I just hope that there is a mystery beyond our comprehension, that the suffering of loss takes us closer somehow to all that is true, and that love, even in its grief, is guiding us back home.
